After 55 years in Hampshire I have moved to Surrey. Not a week later I was in a book shop and saw a book entitled “The 1235 Surrey Eyre” Was this the tale of a hardy commuter? No, an Eyre was the name of a circuit travelled by a justice acting in the monarch’s name. His job was to visit and inspect the holdings of any vassal suspected of being less than upfront about his assets. Can’t say I approve of this, but you have to admit its a great name for a blog!
So read on and find out more about the “bashire” (rhymes with saltire)
